Amara Felice

I am a NYC based designer/seamstress with a background in accessories and fashion design. I currently make leather bags and accessories. I have lived in Brooklyn for the past 30 years and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1994-1995, I attended FIT for accessories design and also took classes in screen printing, garment patternmaking and draping. After completing the accessories program, I made and sold handbags, cocktail hats and screen printed table linens to a few shops in NYC and also worked in various creative studio settings. Ultimately, I wanted to open a store where I could sell all of my designs in one place.

In 1999, I opened (with partners) Eidolon, a small, cooperative boutique located in Park Slope at 233 5th Ave. For 14 years , I made dresses, skirts and tops, panties, custom swimsuits, handbags, clutches and wallets, knitwear, jewelry, hats and whatever else I could think of. I also designed some retro style shoes. It was a very creative and rewarding experience. I also had a baby girl and had much less time to make my designs. After closing Eidolon in 2014, I simplified my product line and decided to only make small leather goods and the swimwear to sell on Etsy and do wholesale. I currently sell to Magpie in NYC, Chroma Makeup Studio in Beverly Hills and other shops nationwide. I work out of a loft studio in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. It’s been my work home for the past 20 years and is my happy place!

When I’m not in the studio or at home with my daughter, I enjoy hunting for sea glass at local NYC beaches. I sort it into small groups and sell it on Ebay. Exploring historical and abandoned places in NYC, taking pictures and finding beach treasures is my quintessential day off. I’m also a little obsessed with reading about NYC history and researching my own family history. On a more personal note, I am married to a very talented artist/musician and teacher and we have a beautiful and creative 13 year old daughter.
